Upping our JOY Q…Our joy quotient is woefully low!

I once took a philosophy class in college and the teacher asked us to define happiness.

I remember saying that it was an illusion and that people who said they were happy were liars. I also said that if people can find a little happiness, it would be fleeting and can never last.

Fast forward 30 years and I have completely and irrevocably changed my mind. As a matter of fact, it feels more like I have healed my mind and in the process healed my spirit.

Over the past few years I have been steeping myself in the study of and the living of Joy. Last year, I even went as far as to do a virtual joy event called Unpasteurized Joy. It was a series of conversations with many different folk from the very famous, like Dr Patch Adams, to the absolutely non-famous, like yours truly. I asked every person to speak of joy and how their work contributes to joy in our world.

Focusing so intently on joy over that past few years has allowed me to stay focused on the good in my life, even as challenges continue to flow in and through, and I am able to keep negativity at bay.

Recently, I heard from a colleague of mine who had surgery and she told me that while she was in recovery she listened to all 26 joy recordings. She said that it really helped her. Thanks Catherine, for sharing this lovely bit of information. It warmed my heart.

My challenge to you is to keep upping your JOY Q by finding the joy all around and by speaking joy as often as you can.

What are some ways that you can increase your JOY Q?

1. Stay focused on the positive aspects of your own wonderful self.
Sign up at www.indranislight.org for a tool called Five minutes to
Happiness for a way to get to your finest values.

2. Take time each day for using your eyes to see the beauty in all those who you
meet. Look for something that you can admire in each person.

3. Find the courage to forgive someone. One of my dear friends found
her courage this weekend to forgive someone who really hurt her a few
years ago. The very next day, the woman she forgave gave her some
wonderful compliments on face book.

4. Write a letter to yourself and forgive yourself for any grievance
that you feel you have committed.

5. Spend a few moments in nature everyday to notice how much intricate beauty
surrounds us.

Up your JOY Q.
We must if we want to save our world.

Love and light,
Indrani

May Flowers

Springtime in Texas is beautiful with all the wild flowers in bloom. I found this beautiful Irish blessing…

“May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.”

I also want to invite you to this event Virtual JOY Summit: INHALE LIFE, EXHALE JOY.

Oh the Places You'll Go.

This past week we have been talking about the upcoming Virtual JOY Event: INHALE LIFE, EXHALE JOY .  It is exciting as we get the bios of all the people who will be sharing their joy at the event.  In one of the emails going back and forth as we brain stormed, some one put in the subject line:  iamjoy OH JOY I AM!  and she laughed maybe she could write a Dr. Seuss book.

I started to look… about if I could,  about if I should, do it this week, write in a way that Dr. Seuss would speak! Then I read some things great and small, and found something he wrote that applies to us all.

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.

You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you’ll be the best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.

I’m sorry to say so
But, sadly it’s true
That bang-ups and hang-ups
Can happen to you.

On and on you will hike, And I know you’ll hike far
and face up to your problems whatever they are.
You’ll get mixed up of course, as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go.

So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
And remember that Life’s a great balancing act.

Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.

Will you succeed?
Yes you will indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

I read these lines with a smile on my face, & thought of how joy can bring us to the same place.  I invite you to be there, where ever you are, it makes no difference how close or how far.  So if we INHALE LIFE we are sure to see, we will EXHALE JOY its got to be!

If you want to be there and there without fail, you can sign up right here and you’ll get an email.

And lastly I invite you, go take a look, click right here we’re on facebook.

FLASH MOB …yes we did!!!

How wonderful it feels to WAGE JOY!
Happy faces, engaging smiles, shrieks of joy… All things that we experienced TODAY.
We danced and we high five’d each other and our cheeks were tired from grinning.
If you were not with us, we missed you.
If you want to experience what we felt, I URGE you to FIND something JOYFUL to do and do it with all your heart and soul.

If you find yourself afraid of being too joyful you are not alone.  Tell us what is preventing you from experiencing joy.
Dr. Brené Brown said that we are more afraid of joy than we are of pain.
I invite you to invite JOY into your life.
Look on YouTube under favorite videos and check out the photos on Facebook to see what we felt!
